Not Feeling The Heat

On the evening of 9th February, my boiler shut itself down; a big red light on the front where it should’ve been green. I couldn’t reset it, so called a plumber.

My wife let him on 11th February. It was a Friday. He looked at the boiler, said “Its the circuit board, I’ll be back in a minute” and he left. He didn’t come back. I phoned him a couple of hours later – he said he needed a part and would get back to me in the morning.

He didn’t. I phoned him and arranged he’d come round at 4pm on Monday 14th. He didn’t turn up. I phoned him at 5pm to see where he was. He said “Oh yeah, I haven’t been to the shop yet”. I told him not to bother.

I phoned another plumber, to come round on Wednesday. I took time out of work to make sure I was in for him. He didn’t turn up. I got an answer machine message 10 minutes before to say he couldn’t come. I didn’t bother calling him back.

I phoned another plumber, to come round on Friday 18th. He came round and reset the boiler, doing what I’d been trying to do all week. The boiler sprang back into life. Of course, if the damn thing is doing what it’s supposed to do, it’s impossible to find a fault. The plumber spent 40 minutes trying to make it go off, but couldn’t.

Either way, I was happy. I had hot water and heating again.
